Confession of a cynical mystic
We've developed crude external tools to measure what we are capable of knowing intuitively. Sometimes I have this feeling that humans are on the edge of some evolutionary leap... We evolved physically until we were able to manipulate our environment well enough that we had to evolve as thinking beings. Now I think there is this higher-self evolution coming. It sounds silly put into words, but more and more I meet people who are there, and I feel it. The ki, or ch'i, life force, energy, whatever you want to call it. I'm running into more people with raised ki levels. Most of them are positive pragmatists--they know humanity is flawed, but they also know that one person really can make a difference. It is that awareness and inner certainty which raises their ki, I think. Sometimes, when I am centered and my own ki is raised, I can feel them, I know they are there even if I have not seen them yet. We smile, we nod, we pass each other, words unnecessary because the brush of ki says it all. They enter a space and the energy of those around them changes, as though they charge the very air, clearing it of negativity. And whenever I come across these strangers, hope grows. Another one, I think. One day there will be millions, billions of people who are self-aware, who can consciously raise their ki, and when that happens... who knows? Can the ki of a few uplift many? Uplift our species?
Sometimes I think we humans have access to all there is to know, but we haven't learned to tap it...

Evolution is millions of years of trial and error, trial and error, and it's still far, far from over. We still have a long way to go, and a long way to go before we even realize how far we have left to go. But we'll get there, bit by bit.
