Dinner Party
This evening's mood: Relaxed and vibrant.
This evening's music: Rob played deejay--Cat Stevens, a 70's hits CD, some Erasure, Ella Fitzgerald, Baka Beyond, Bach's Suite for the Lute played by Segovia on his classical guitar, and spanish flamenco music.
The 'spirits' of the evening: A bottle of merlot, a bottle of muscat, a variety of cordials, port, and cognacs.
The evening meal: I kept it simple--gorgeous ribeye steaks that were marinated for 5 hours in a home-made balsamic vinagrette, a tomato and fresh mozarella salad, and my secret recipe mashed potatoes (2 to 1 ratio of russet potatoes to sweet potatoes, with a few tablespoons of sweet cream butter, and freshly grated nutmeg). Dessert was from the Pix Patisserie: a St. Honoré gâteau (puff pastry, caramelized cream puffs, Grand Marnier pastry cream and vanilla bean crème chantilly).
Conversation this evening: Was very wide ranging... we talked about Stephanie's vacation and my upcoming one, about Josh's trip to Spain in June. Kathy talked about her pets and her trip to Hawaii, and her upcoming trip to the Bay Area. Since Rob used to live there, he gave her some pointers. We talked about the Oregon Health Plan and how funding is drying up, which makes it harder for Elena as a mental health counselor.
Rob have me a back rub. He has such good hands. He definately worked out some kinks and relaxed my neck and shoulders.
We spent most of the evening outside, it was a perfect day and we wanted to savour it. I finally pushed them out the door at 1:00am. I am beat. Time to head for bed so I can get up early to finish organising things. I had to toss all the stuff I'd been putting in the living room into my room, so its a bit of a setback... ah well.
