Dilettante's Diary: the internal dialogue of a hedonist bluestocking.

I am a dilettante. I know quite a bit about a lot of things, but I don't know enough to be an expert on anything. I have a very sensual, hedonistic nature, but I am also a thinker, and I aim one day to be worthy of the label 'bluestocking', despite its pejorative connotations.

This is my journal, which, delightfully enough, doesn't have to go wherever I go, but is accessible from nearly everywhere I am.

Sunday morning

I left my winamp running last night, so I woke up to Ani di Franco singing "You Had Time". Such a sad song. The next hour was cued up with the following music, all of it rather melancholy:
Meaning of Loneliness - Van Morrison
Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word - Joe Cocker
I Know - Jude
Dream a Little Dream - Billie Holiday
I'd Rather Go Blind - Etta James
Sage and Spirit - Grateful Dead
Give Me a Little Sign - Brenton Wood
Mary's in India - Dido
Black Balloon - Goo Goo Dolls
My Melancholy Baby - Charlie Parker & Dizzy Gillespie
La Mamoounia - Moroccan Spirit
Gracie - Jackie Green
Don't Know Why - Norah Jones

Instead of my usual Sunday omlette with chevre, mushrooms, and diced tomatoes, I made a parfait: layers of yogurt, blueberries, and granola. Crunchier than I'm used to, but a nice change.

I talked to Stephanie online this morning. She's living proof that that internet is ubiquitous, as Stas says. Stephanie managed to make it to Florence, apparently, so the trains are running in Italy again. She also managed to break the law, getting a photo of the David statue. She was feeling very pleased with herself because she bought tickets to the museum online a month in advance, and managed to avoid standing in queue for hours. She is probably running Janne ragged -- she's got the energy of a 10 year old. She has zero body fat, so I hope she is eating well... oh wait, she is in Italy, of course she is eating well! She promised to have lots of gelato and tell me how good it was... I should get back to Italy one of these days, but first I have to go to the Netherlands and Sweden and Denmark, or certain people will never forgive me.
