Xmas trip
He's faded quite a lot. He's still feisty, but he tires so easily, and he's mostly in a wheelchair now. He's gotten his speech back completely from the stroke, but his left arm and leg don't have much movement. This makes things particularly diffcult for him, as he is left-handed. Correction. He was left handed. but for all he has physically faded, he seems to be happier than he was when he was in CA. He was getting lonely there, especially since he can't golf anymore. A major drawback when retiring to a golfing community--what do you do when you can't golf anymore?
We had some good talks, Granddad and I. He asked me again about getting married. I told him again that I'm an 'old maid' and content to remain so. He said that it is nice to have a companion in your old age, and his eyes watered (Its been 10 years since Granny died). I told him that I hope to have such a companion, but I don't expect it--I'm very independent and set in my ways. I know he worries about me--no husband, no children--but his worries are a reflection of the values of his generation. A 36 year old woman had no prospects 50 years ago. But I told him I have a good career and a good life and I am happy.
