WWIV
I have a lot of opinions on the War on Terror, the Military-Industrial Complex and its war profiteering, on the unconstitutionality of the so-called Patriot Act, on the deplorable state of foreign policy in the US, on the Bush Administration's disastrous public (domestic) policies, on the state of the deficit, on the Bankruptcy Bill, on Social Security Reform, Trilateralists, etc. I haven't voiced them because I am so vehement and slanted in my opinions that, no matter how informed my opinions are, even my friends would accuse me of being biased :)
Politically, I am probably best described as a Libertarian, though I rarely say that in public since most people hear Libertarian and think wackos like Lyndon LaRoche. But at base, I believe that we should be able to pursue life, liberty and happiness without Government regulating it to death. I believe in personal and corporate accountability, keeping the Government's hands off my body and my mind, and letting others live their own lives as they choose to, even if I don't agree with their choices.
I read. I read a lot. I read the Leftist rags, the Rightwing propaganda, the Centrist plea-papers. I read the neoconservative press, the Canadian and European news sites, Reuters and AP news feeds.
In my reading, I recently came across an article that said it all, and I recommend it highly. Its one of the best pieces of journalism I have come across in a long time. It is thoroughly researched, comprehensive, and, yes, coloured by the author's opinion. But I have to say that it is difficult not to respect the author's opinion considering the breadth of his knowledge on the subject. The article is called "Are we in World War IV yet?" and it is written by Tom Englehart. It can be found here.
