I have listed the first 10 that came to mind:
1-I would like to be there when Einstein has his moment of clarity and 'discovers' the equivalence principle.
2-I would like to witness Beethoven composing his 9th symphony.
3-I would love to sit in on a "conversation party" hosted by Mrs. Vesey, wife of Agmondesham Vesey, a member of the Irish parliament, and the daughter of Sir Thomas Vesey, bishop of Ossory. She was a witty Irishwoman with literary tastes, who was determined to unite the literary and the fashionable circles in which she moved. Most particularly, I would love to have witnessed the first 'bluestocking gathering' which was inaugurated by the presence of Benjamin Stillingfleet, the disinherited grandson of the bishop of Worcester, who was a botanist, a poet, a recluse, a philosopher and recognized as an utter failure. But he was a brilliant conversationalist, and he appeared at Mrs Vesey's conversation party, where the women all wore evening gowns, in his shabby work-a-day blue stockings. And he wore his blue stockings ever one thereafter.
4-I would want to be in the audience for Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.
5-I want to watch Rodin carving the Fallen Caryatid.
6-I want to witness Truman's agonizing over whether or not to drop the Bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima (the anniversary is coming up August 6th, I believe). I believe he was a good man, who made a very difficult decision that weighed upon him for the rest of his life.
7-I want to be a reveller in a Beltane or Dionysian festival, enjoying the unashamed and unrestrained celebration of human sexuality and fertility.
8-I want to watch the first (incredibly hungry) human to look at a something as hideous as a lobster or a crawdad and think "that looks tasty."
9-I want more than anything to spend a week with Leondaro da Vinci. I have read his journals, I have enjoyed his art, his inventions, and I greatly admire his mind.
10-I would love to witness an imaginary event: the meeting of Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo. Oh, how far they could have taken modern science if they had been able to meet and exchange ideas with the ease that we do today.
Now I'm supposed to pass this on to four other people: so I tag Zezrie, Philoserf, Curious Dragon, and Deep Thoughts (because she needs something to distract her from all that deep thinking).
I hope I am doing this right.
